A sincere note of gratitude to each and every person who attended and/or participated in our Golden Anniversary celebration on Saturday, September 23. Though turnout was lighter than expected, the event was still a success and enjoyed by all who attended.
We extend special thanks and recognition to our sponsors, whose contributions made this event possible: First National Bank of Altavista, Runk & Pratt, Samet Corporation, McCormick’s Riverside Arena, B & B Market, Central VA Family Physicians, Colbert-Moran, El Cazador, Food Lion, Hurt & Proffitt, Lynchburg Computer Systems, Mid-Atlantic Printers, Moore’s Electric, Pam Shelton Massage, Peed & Bortz, Southside Electric Cooperative, Staunton River Baptist Association, Teresa’s Hair Salon, Vista Food, and several individual citizens.
Appreciations are also extended to Hurt Volunteer Fire Department, Hurt Police Department, town council and office staff, the anniversary committee, and two nonprofit organizations whose efforts benefit our community, Thunderstruck Fastpitch and the Staunton River Medical Center Committee.
Thanks to all performers for a job well done and a pleasant, entertaining afternoon: Emcee and “Elvis” Audie Meadows, Hurt Elementary School chorus and jammers, Dryden the Magician, Tammy Crider & Eddie Collins, Rhythm Dance Company, Amber Short, Barbara Dalton and Penny Mason.
Lastly, thanks and apologies in advance for anyone we may have inadvertently omitted in this list.
Going forward… the anniversary committee is in the process of planning a historical presentation event for early November. Please check our Semicentennial page (under the “News” tab above) periodically. Additional information will be published there as details are resolved.
