In observance of Memorial Day, the Town of Hurt Municipal Offices will close on Monday, May 28.  We remember our fallen heroes who paid the ultimate price in service to our country, and express our gratitude to all those who have served in the past and who continue today.

Have a safe and pleasant Memorial weekend.

Fiscal Year 2018-19 Proposed Budget

Important Special Notice:  If you have not already done so, please begin using the new main numbers:  (434) 608-0554 for town hall and (434) 205-1177 for FAX.  Automated forwarding of calls made to the old numbers ended April 30 and were replaced by a recording directing callers to the new number).  This was the final phase of the transition that began 3 months ago to our new system, which not only eliminates the chronic malfunctions of the old system, but also saves tax dollars by lowering monthly costs and paying for itself over 3 years.

Update:  after receiving considerable citizen feedback that many were dissatisfied with the automated greeting and touch-tone menu, preferring instead that the phones be answered by a person, we have adjusted the system accordingly.  Please know that your voices were heard and your concerns cared about.  We apologize for any inconvenience, and thank you for your patience.

Beginning Wednesday, May 9… during business hours, the system will route an incoming call first to the front office (clerk).  If she is on another line or away from the desk, then after 20 seconds (4 or 5 rings) it will begin ringing the public works and police department offices as well.  Then, after another 20 seconds and if no one has answered, it will route the caller to voicemail.  The after-hours automated message will remain in place.
