*** Important Public Safety Statement (Updated June 16, 2017) ***
Numerous concerns have been received at town hall as to the status and future of EMS services for Hurt/northern Pittsylvania County since the closure of Altavista EMS (AEMS) this spring. Misunderstandings have arisen as to the availability of services for area residents.
The safety and welfare of local citizens is our first priority. Northern Pittsylvania County, including Hurt, is currently being served by paid professional EMS crews from Regional One, supported by the county, and has been since the AEMS closure. Regional One is operating out of a small building adjacent to the Hurt Volunteer Fire Department, which is a good central location from which to answer calls throughout the area. Thus far, all public feedback the town has received regarding Regional One’s services has been positive.
Hurt remains actively engaged in collaboration with Pittsylvania County to address the ever-present need for quality, reliable EMS throughout the northern portion of the county. Efforts are ongoing to develop and implement a long-term solution for our area’s EMS needs. It is premature to state specifics of what that solution will be. A variety of options are being considered, but no definite decisions have been made. This is an involved process that will likely take several months. Final decisions will ultimately rest with the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors, as the board determines how county funds are to be spent.
We will post updates as details are resolved and more information becomes available, so please revisit this site and/or our Facebook page periodically to keep abreast of any changes. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
