The Town of Hurt, like other municipal corporations across the Commonwealth of Virginia, was established by and perpetually operates in accordance with an official Town Charter approved by the General Assembly.  A charter is, in effect, the “Constitution” by which a local government is formed and functions.

The Town of Hurt, Virginia officially incorporated in 1967, but the chartering process leading up to that action occurred in 1966.  Our town charter, including its most recent amendments in 2009, is accessible in a printable PDF document by clicking the link below.
